PoliticsTHE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES HAS ENDED ITS RUSSIA PROBE, WITH HOUSE INTELLIGENCE COMMITTEE REPUBLICANS CLAIMING THAT THEY FOUND NO EVIDENCE OF COORDINATION BETWEEN THE TRUMP CAMPAIGN AND THE KREMLIN.
“BY ENDING ITS OVERSIGHT ROLE IN THE ONLY AUTHORIZED INVESTIGATION IN THE HOUSE, THE MAJORITY HAS PLACED THE INTERESTS OF PROTECTING THE PRESIDENT OVER PROTECTING THE COUNTRY, AND HISTORY WILL JUDGE ITS ACTIONS HARSHLY,” SAID REP. ADAM SCHIFF (D-CALIF.). DEMOCRATS WERE NOT CONSULTED ON THE REPORT.
THE REPUBLICAN REPORT SAYS THAT RUSSIA ATTEMPTED TO CREATE CHAOS BUT WAS NOT TRYING TO AID TRUMP, WHICH DIRECTLY CONTRADICTS THE CONCLUSIONS OF THE OFFICE OF THE DIRECTOR OF NATIONAL INTELLIGENCE, THE FBI, THE CIA, AND THE NSA.
“WE DON’T THINK THAT’S SUPPORTED BY THE UNDERLYING DATA,” REP. MIKE CONAWAY, THE TEXAS REPUBLICAN LEADING THE PROBE, TOLD POLITICO.
ALL THEY FOUND, CONAWAY SAID, WAS “PERHAPS SOME BAD JUDGMENT, INAPPROPRIATE MEETINGS, INAPPROPRIATE JUDGMENT AT TAKING MEETINGS.”
FROM THE WASHINGTON POST:
DEMOCRATS SAY THERE ARE THOUSANDS MORE PAGES OF DOCUMENTS THE COMMITTEE NEVER PROCURED AND DOZENS MORE WITNESSES THEY NEED TO CALL FOR INTERVIEWS—INCLUDING SEVERAL THEY SAY NEED TO BE SUBPOENAED FOR TESTIMONY AFTER REFUSING TO FULLY ANSWER THE PANEL’S QUESTIONS.
NOTABLY, THE COMMITTEE DID NOT INTERVIEW ANY OF THE TRUMP ASSOCIATES WHO HAVE BEEN INDICTED IN THE MUELLER PROBE. OH WELL. CONAWAY SAYS THE COMMITTEE, WHILE SATISFIED WITH ITS CONCLUSIONS ON RUSSIA, WILL CONTINUE TO PROBE ALLEGATIONS OF “UNMASKING” BY MEMBERS OF THE OBAMA ADMINISTRATION, WHICH SOUNDS LIKE A GREAT USE OF THEIR TIME.
