In an appearance on Australia’s version of 60 Minutes, which is just like the American version of 60 Minutes only with a 50 percent better chance of seeing Nicole Kidman wandering in the background of an interview, star of Grease and close friend of John Travolta’s Olivia Newton-John was asked about the “mysterious” 2005 disappearance of her ex-boyfriend of nine years, Patrick McDermott.
Though she has spoken very little about McDermott since then, Newton-John told the interviewer:
“Yeah it was very hard. He was lost at sea and nobody really knows what happened…It’s human to wonder. But you know, those are the things in life you have to accept and let go. Because whenever you go through difficult times, there’s always those concerns. But I live on.”
You know who else probably lives on, Liv? Patrick McDermott! In the 11 years since he was last seen (on a fishing boat intriguingly named “Freedom”), several sources have alleged that he is alive and well in Mexico, and that his “disappearance” was a desperate measure to avoid paying his debts.
In March, two private detectives shared their findings with Woman’s Day:
…Philip Klein alleges Patrick, now 59, is living and working in the isolated Mexican village of Sayulita. “Patrick’s probably now working in the yachting industry for a high-profile family down there,” Philip claims.
Meanwhile, John Nazarian, who was the very first detective to investigate the case, told us, “It’s rumored he was with a German national. I spoke to people there [in Mexico]. The girl he was traveling with was described as having a German accent. To come up with the conclusion that he fell off the boat, and allegedly no one saw him fall off the boat, is the most preposterous thing I’ve ever heard in my life.”
