Original 90210 Cast Reportedly Returning With Brandon, Kelly, Donna, David, Steve, and Andrea

As an original Beverly Hills, 90210 fan—the cast, the drama, the FASHION—I found the 2008 reboot difficult to watch, not just because who the hell is AnnaLynne McCord, but because watching a television show about rich and bratty teens is not exactly the most appealing thing in the same year as a pretty serious recession. But 2019 is different—our looming financial crisis feels much more inevitable and collapsible, so in the absence of reason, why not indulge in a little nostalgia?

Variety reports that CBS Television Studios is currently shopping another 90210 reboot that’s less of a reboot and more of a picking-up-where-we-left-off, with Jennie Garth, Tori Spelling, Jason Priestley, Ian Ziering, Brian Austin Green, and Gabrielle Carteris rumored to be reprising their old roles as, respectively, Kelly, Donna, Brandon, Steve, David, and Andrea. Garth reprised her role in the 2008 version, but apparently thought it was not great because the cast didn’t have “chemistry,” which, yeah.

Here is a free idea for the reboot-reboot writers: get Christine Elise back for the other type of “chemistry”—recall Emily Valentine’s jaunt with ecstasy and cocaine and Brandon falling down the rabbit hole with her!—and turn this version into gritty realism, the True Detective of teen television, wherein the rich kids of Beverly Hills have grown up to be sober living counselors and AA chainsmokers, if not wellness gurus (Andrea, duh). Also, Luke Perry is obviously busy with Riverdale playing a character that is essentially adult Dylan, but the opportunities for a meta-crossover are endless. Maybe Kelly travels to upstate New York for a silent yoga retreat and has a sexy fling with Riverdale’s Fred Andrews (Luke Perry), a hot blue-collar bad boy.

This could be so fun! Someone needs to pick it up and not fuck it up.
