A 2o-year-old Virginia woman died tragically Friday morning after the unsecured mattress she was “riding” fell off the top of a moving vehicle. According to the Washington Post, officers said the woman, identified as Culpeper resident Sidney Zelaya Gonzalez, was “trying to transport the mattress,” and that the accident “was not the result of a ‘joyride.’”

The driver of the van was a 41-year-old woman of Culpeper, according to the statement, but police did not provide her name. Speed and alcohol do not appear to be factors in the crash, police said, and charges may be filed against the driver, who remained at the scene.
A spokesperson for the Prince William County police said, “I don’t remember ever having to deal with a situation like this.” With any luck, he won’t ever have to again.
Please do not ride a mattress on top of a van.
