Relatives of Farzana Parveen Indicted on Murder, Torture Charges
LatestFive men have been indicted on charges of murder and torture in the stoning death of 25-year-old Farzana Parveen in late May. Her father, two brothers, a cousin, and a man who claimed he was married to Parveen have all pled not guilty.
Parveen, who was pregnant at the time, was on her way to court in order to defend her husband Mohammad Iqbal (having murdered his first wife so he could marry Parveen) from accusations from Parveen’s family that she had been abducted by Iqbal. She was met by a mob carrying bricks and was killed on the spot, while police and onlookers allegedly did nothing.
The trial will begin tomorrow, and according to police investigator Mian Zulficar, police and doctors who conducted the autopsy will be testifying. Via AP:
“We have a strong case against the suspects but it is up to the court how to take view of our investigation,” he said.
