Rihanna's Rumored Topshop Line

  • Rihanna had dinner with Topshop founder Philip Green and Simon Cowell. Because Green and Cowell run an entertainment company that produces television and fashion ventures, the tabloid seers are pretty sure that means Rihanna‘s getting a clothing line. [Daily Mail]
  • Benjamin Millepied — ballet dancer, Black Swan choreographer, fiancé and fetus-daddy of Natalie Portman — was in the fall Club Monaco campaign. [The Cut]
  • Orlando Bloom is the face of a Hugo Boss cologne. The sexy, smoldering face. [Stylelist]
  • Stephen Dorff: “I like to say that Sofia Coppola made me cool again…I haven’t been shot by Mario Testino in like six years and now he’s shooting me for the cover of V Man and L’uomo Vogue. And Tom Ford has been really good to me for all of these events.” [WWD]
  • The Queen and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall have been criticized by an animal-rights activist for wearing fur on Christmas Day. Queen Elizabeth II wore a hat and a coat that appeared to be trimmed in real fur, and Camilla wore a Philip Treacy hat made from fur recycled from a coat that had belonged to her mother. “It doesn’t matter when the animal was killed, it’s a body part and a product of cruelty,” says the activist. • In related news, Oslo Fashion Week has become to the first fashion week in the world to ban participating designers from showing fur. [Ecouterre]
  • A couple holding a yard sale knowingly sold a shirt that belonged to Frank Sinatra for $5. The unemployed construction worker who picked the shirt up for a song and did a little due diligence on its provenance is auctioning it off on January 1, when it will doubtless sell for many, many times that. • Although we learned yesterday that consumer spending — especially in the apparel, jewelry, and luxury categories — recovered to pre-recession levels for the first time this holiday season, consumer confidence nonetheless fell modestly but unexpectedly in the month of December. [WWD]
  • Catherine McNeil nabbed another cover of Vogue Australia, but her new haircut didn’t. (Or, perhaps the February cover was shot prior to late October, when the model got a bob and dyed it black.) [Fashionologie]
  • In other February cover news, Leighton Meester made the front of Seventeen. She wears a colorful Versus dress designed by Christopher Kane, and says, “I’m working with a band right now, doing a lot of acoustic music through singing and writing. It’s really fun and fulfilling. It’s an expression of what I have in my life and what I’m going through, or what I have gone through, and of course, it’s mostly about love or relationships.” [JustJared]
  • Rachel Antonoff shot her spring lookbook on 30 Rock‘s Katrina Bowden. And a model named Ruby Jean. And a kitten. [Fashionista]
  • Tod’s owner Diego Della Valle has recently acquired a nearly 20% stake in Saks Fifth Avenue, while Mexican billionaire (and New York Times mortgage-holder) Carlos Slim Hélu owns just over 16% of the retailer’s stock. But if either (or both) of them wanted to launch a takeover bid — just theoretically — they would face some hurdles, because Saks is incorporated in Tennessee, where state laws make hostile takeovers difficult. [WWD]
  • Olympic grade self-promoter and New Larry King Piers Morgan, who was profiled in Vogue‘s October issue, went up to Grace Coddington at a restaurant in New York. He told her she was his idol, and he loved “her documentary.” The Vogue stylist didn’t recognize him at all. (Maybe she’s as bored of reading Vogue profiles as we are.) Morgan prompted, “You had me in your magazine, remember?” He reports, “Then she remembered. Or pretended to.” Perhaps the funniest thing about this whole incident is that Morgan not only confirmed the account to Page Six, he offered up a bonus quote. (We can’t conclusively rule out that Morgan didn’t put on a funny voice and call in his own item to the gossip column.) No social embarrassment is too great or too small to become a vector for Piers Morgan‘s name-check advancement! [P6]
