So Is Fergie Invited to Prince Harry's Wedding or What?

Latest

This weekend brought one of the most intriguing questions of Harry and Meghan’s wedding to a boil: Is Sarah Ferguson, erstwhile HRH, the original Fergie, invited?

We’re in a fertile period for guest list speculation, as official invitations haven’t gone out yet. (Hence the discussion of whether we can expect to see the Obamas.) Fergie is a big one—Prince Philip reportedly cannot stand her, doing a dramatic double take after spotting her at Royal Ascot in 2015. This weekend the Sun reported that she would not make the cut, which seems especially harsh considering the tab said there will be 600 guests:

A royal insider revealed: “The Duchess of York is not invited to Harry’s wedding. The invites are being sent out this week and she’s not on the list.
“Fergie has been told to keep a low profile before Eugene’s wedding and not to go on talk shows or give interviews about the royal family. She’s not happy about it.
“Eugenie’s wedding is going to be a nightmare because so many of the family can’t stand the Duchess. It’s very uncomfortable.
“She is still lobbying for an invite but Harry remains adamant he doesn’t want her there.”

“Harry and Meghan have been close to Eugenie and Jack, which had increased Fergie’s hopes of getting an invite,” another “friend” was quoted. “But Harry doesn’t trust Fergie to keep her mouth shut and respect their privacy.”

However! Twist! The Express then returned fire:

The Prince’s aunt will be on the guest list for the wedding at St George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle, on May 19, the Daily Express understands – in spite of claims yesterday that she has been snubbed.
The 58-year-old was not invited to the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s wedding in 2011 and spoke afterwards about the hurt it caused her.
Harry, 33, is understood to be keen to avoid causing her further pain.

Specifically, Fergie spoke to Oprah Winfrey; she told her, “I was not invited, and I chose to go and be in Thailand in a place called Camelia and … the jungle embraced me,” ABC News reported.

Time will say for sure whether or not she’s made the cut this go-round. She doesn’t seem too bothered on social media, where she is busy celebrating her daughter’s own royal engagement with oodles of homemade memes. Truly, my cup runneth over.
