Solange Named Harvard Foundation Artist of the Year
EntertainmentSolange Knowles has been named the Harvard Foundation’s “Artist of the Year” for 2018.
The Harvard Foundation for Intercultural and Race Relations is the university’s office for “interracial, interethnic, and interreligious relations.” The annual honoree for the Artist of the Year is selected by the foundation’s students and faculty. Previous recipients of the award include Viola Davis, Queen Latifah, and John Legend, to name a few. Knowles was reportedly chosen for “her platform to advocate for representation and justice while providing constructive and empowering political messages.”
In addition to her beautiful 2016 Grammy-winning album A Seat at the Table, Knowles has also spent the last few years staging high-concept art exhibits and performances at locations like the Tate and the Guggenheim museum. Solange will accept the accolade on March 3 at the university’s Cultural Rhythms festival.
