Some Dramatic Moments at Lakme Fashion Week

Entertainment

We’re just about two weeks out before the exhausting New York/London/Paris/Milan fashion month rigamarole begins again, but at any given moment, there’s probably a fashion week happening somewhere, and with overall more interesting looks. Over the last few days, Lakme Fashion Week convened once again in Mumbai, and the mood was luxury, drama, and what appeared to be RAVES. Above, designer Manish Malhotra shows a taupe short-set/evening gown and sequin cape for ultimate UV-ray drama. (That was an eclipse reference, so I have earned my paycheck for the day.)

The warmth and depth of texture in this burnished gold Amit Aggarwal gown, complete with fist-sized statement earrings, is really doing it for me. Someone wear this to the Emmys next month?

Caprese x Jodi is giving us stretchy sportswear with a Kansas vibe, but the swing of that middle dress is pure city-motion.

Rahul Mishra stuck with handcrafted, ruffled saris in wispy materials that made it all very ethereal.

But Ritu Kumar did more of a punky, pink Cadillac motif; the backdrop was covered in paintings of flamingos.

You know I love any type of avant-face gear. This one’s by Doodlage.

Not to be outdone, Masaba Gupta sent models through an enchanted forest, babes in the woods with keyhole necklines. Also because she is the best. See you at the next fashion week, of which there will be 100,000 in the coming months.
