The “bad, but not fun bad” live special was nominated for Outstanding Music Direction, Outstanding Directing for a Variety Special, Outstanding Special Class Program and Outstanding Technical Direction, Camerawork, Video Control for a Miniseries, Movie or a Special, according to Rolling Stone.
Despite the initial audible eyeroll that emanated from America’s skull-holes when NBC announced the project, 18.5 million people tuned in to watch, which means it was a ratings success. And if TV networks’ propensity to stick with what works in the past is any indication, we’ve got tons of memoryfucking to look forward to; if Carrie Underwood can play Maria von Trapp, then who knows what sadistic bullshit networks will pull in the future. The King & I, starring Adam Levine as both The King and I. West Side Story, starring Selena Gomez and Justin Bieber (that I’d watch, actually, if only to see Biebs get pretend shot). A Charlie Brown Christmas, starring Nick Cannon and those screaming little girls Ellen Degeneres loves.
It’s over. Pack it up.
