The New Personal Shopper Trailer Has Far Less Shopping and Way More Ghosts

Entertainment

The European trailer for Olivier Assayas’s upcoming Personal Shopper spent its opening half reminding viewers that Kristen Stewart’s character, Maureen, is a personal shopper. It wasn’t until its second half that the whole “she’s communicating with her dead brother” thing was brought up. But the film’s first American trailer, which dropped today, is considerably more upfront about the fact that this is a movie about Stewart being haunted by a dang ghost!

“My twin brother Louis died here,” she tells a man after being asked why she’s traveled to Paris. “We made this oath. Whoever died first would send the other a sign.” And boy, does he send some signs! He bangs on walls! He scratches tables! He! Opens! Elevator! Doors!

But I don’t mean to poke fun at the film, which divided audiences at this year’s Cannes film festival. It looks wonderful—dark and mysterious—with Stewart appearing to do what she does best (especially when under Assayas’s direction), which is drift through beautiful locales in a constant state of cool, quiet detachment.

Personal Shopper hits theaters in March.
