The Night Belongs To Margaret Mead

Latest

On this day in 1901, cultural anthropologist Margaret Mead was born in Philadelphia. Her father was a professor of finance at Wharton; her mother was a sociologist. Mead got three degrees, was married three times, traveled to Polynesia, was an assistant curator at the American Museum of Natural History and wrote ten books, including Sex and Temperament in Three Primitive Societies, which outlined a region of Papua New Guinea where females are dominant and it’s no big whup and everything is fine. Mead is also famous for saying:

Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.

So happy birthday to her, and to all of our inner explorers. This here is your open thread, ladies. Take care of it. See you on the flip side.
