The Swift-Kelce MSG Wedding Might Actually Be Happening

For weeks and weeks, I was refusing to take the bait—the bait being a devious rumor that Taylor Swift (THE Taylor Swift) was going to have her wedding (where she would walk down the aisle to her betrothed, Travis Kelce) at Madison Square Garden in New York City on the Fourth of July. It has to be a misdirect, I thought. Daily Mail? Yeah right. TMZ? Not buying it. There’s no way there are people who actually think that a bajillionare like Taylor would have her wedding at a convertible sports arena with no natural light.

Well, look who looks the fool now…me. And maybe Taylor, since it looks like she actually might be having her wedding at her place of work…a concert venue. As of Wednesday, the New York Times confirmed that a permit had been filed with the city to close the streets surrounding the MSG for an event on July 3. According to another NYT-verified source, several of Kelce’s teammates have booked hotel rooms for that weekend at the Marriott Marquis in Times Square, and a fourth city official confirmed with the outlet that the events of July 3rd were indeed “wedding festivities.” Now that’s Journalism™.

The permit was filed by Winick Productions, a Manhattan event planning company, “requesting authorization to set up a tent or canopy outside the arena for the event, which it said would include 500 to 999 attendees.” 500-999!!! I spent so much time accepting that this wasn’t true that a part of me still can’t believe it, and the NYT seems to agree that “Ms. Swift could be undertaking an intricate ruse.” Indeed…

A small theory prevails…What if this…is not the wedding? It could be an intimate wedding-style celebration, or a reception concert for famous people only, where Taylor and Travis can invite every musician and athlete they know, along with their respective plus-ones. We won’t know until the day comes, which is now less than two weeks away.

In other wedding news: 49ers tight end George Kittle revealed some more wedding goss to the press: The couple has requested “absolutely no gifts,” which is understandable. As each day passes, TMZ releases the names of new purported invitees, most recently including Sombr, Benson Boone, and ex-friend Karlie Kloss. Again, I’ll believe it when I see it.
