The Writer Who Brought You 'Cat Person' Just Sold a Horror Screenplay to A24
EntertainmentProduction company A24 (Lady Bird, Moonlight) is developing a horror movie called Bodies Bodies Bodies based on a script by “Cat Person” author Kristen Roupenian. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Bodies Bodies Bodies is A24’s first spec acquisition.
There isn’t a logline for this thing yet, so I can’t tell you more about it! All I can do is rehash Roupenian’s runaway success short story “Cat Person,” published to viral praise and adjudication on the New Yorker’s website in December, and itself a horror tale of sorts (not just because of the delicately mingling lips that overhang it, like a warning). The story recounts a familiarly nightmarish dating scenario, and chances are you’ve already read it, or were subjected to many conversations about it anyway.
A source told THR that executives are trying to fast-track the script, which Roupenian had already written when “Cat Person” was published.
A week after her short story sensation came out, Roupenian inked a seven-figure book deal for her first short story collection You Know You Want This, to be published by Simon & Schuster imprint Scout Press in the spring of 2019.
