There Were Some Notable No-Shows at Miley Cyrus’s ‘Hannah Montana’ Premiere

Another notable moment from the evening is when she joked that Alex Cooper is a "creepy superfan."

There Were Some Notable No-Shows at Miley Cyrus’s ‘Hannah Montana’ Premiere

Hannah Montana is back, with a sprinkle of grown-up Miley Cyrus mess. Cyrus hit the carpet on Monday for the premiere of Disney+’s Hannah Montana 20th Anniversary Special alongside her former castmates Jason Earles, Moisés Arias, Shanica Knowles, Anna Maria Perez de Tagle, and Cody Linley. But it’s who wasn’t there that’s making the biggest headlines. (Also, the fact that she called Alex Cooper a “creepy superfan” and admitted to secretly dating Dylan Sprouse—messy!)

First up, Emily Osment, who played Miley’s best friend Lilly (and Hannah’s assistant Lola Luftnagle), posted on Instagram that she couldn’t be at the premiere because she’s currently filming her CBS show George & Mandy’s First Marriage. Fair. Fine.

Then, Mitchel Musso —aka Miley’s other bestie, Oliver Oken—was also absent. He did not explicitly say why, but he did post his own gushing Instagram to pay tribute to his time on the show.

“Miley, Emily, Jason, Billy Ray, Moises, and the whole crew at Disney—you became my family through all the real, messy, beautiful moments,” he wrote. “To all of you, thank you for welcoming me into your homes and hearts 20 years ago and still allowing me to be here today.” Great.

Which brings us to the final, and most conspicuously absent, Hannah Montana cast member: Miley’s (the character and the real woman) dad, Billy Ray Cyrus.

Despite being featured in the reunion, Billy Ray was nowhere to be found at the premiere. This comes after four years of Cyrus family drama following his split from Miley’s mom, Trish, in 2022. There were sibling feuds, allegations of mom-on-daughter boyfriend theft (!!!), and all sorts of shady Instagram comment behavior. Most recently, Miley’s older brother, Trace Cyrus, posted on Instagram concerns about his father after he performed at Trump’s Inauguration Liberty Ball in 2025, which allegedly led to Billy Ray threatening him with “legal action.”

Miley told People at the time that she didn’t want to “get involved” in the family drama, which is probably why she didn’t want to have it all on display on her big night. So, while mom Trish and older sister Brandi Cyrus were there, Billy Ray, Noah, Trace, Crostopher, and Braison were all nowhere to be found.

Or, they were halfway around the world performing as their pop-star alter-egos, and no amount of Disney-fied hijinks could make it work.
