Thom Browne: For the Covetous, Slightly Creepy Nun in You

For his fall/winter collection, Thom Browne went from mental asylum to convent — keeping the unsettling flourishes and dramatic, oversized silhouettes constant, of course.

The runway show was held in a space in Chelsea, which had been transformed into a giant church, complete with pews, incense and massive crosses. The models — clad in first in grey and black — were outfitted in tailored suits that mixed the ornate sleeves and collars of the Elizabethan era with a tailored 40s aesthetic. Then came the sea of gold lamé and gold leaf. It’s very quintessentially Thom Browne to meditate on the Catholic church with such an outlandish, decadent display and have it make total sense.
