Thom Browne, that wily genius who imagines his collections as just a little bit (or a lot) off-perspective from what you or I might see, has done the damn thing again with Spring 2017, in which he referenced old photographs from the ‘60s and ‘70s and essentially gave the Valley of the Dolls an acid freak-out.
Browne toldVogue España that the “concept was really taking tailored clothing and trompe l’oeiling it into basically a one-piece that zipped down the back, almost referencing a wetsuit.” The setting was a public pool, the music was muzak, that overcoats were puffy and day-glo, with mismatched shoes and mirrored sunnies in the shape of fishes and lifesavers. Also, the models were assisted by dudes in animal costumes, no big deal! They’re leftovers from his Spring 2017 menswear show held in Paris in June. I love every bit of this show.
