Tig Notaro's Dark Comedy One Mississippi Draws From Personal Tragedy

Latest

If you were thinking to yourself, “Gee, I need some more Tig Notaro in my life”—I know, me too—you’re in luck. Her new series, One Mississippi, will premiere September 9 on Amazon.

As Vulture reports, the show, which could be broadly described as dark comedy, draws from her experience as a cancer patient and losing her mother. In the show, she has just undergone a double mastectomy and been diagnosed with an intestinal disease. Soon after, she returns to Mississippi to join her family and take her mother off life support. Casey Wilson (Happy Endings) plays the role of Notaro’s girlfriend.

The material is heavy, but Notaro’s deadpan could slay the most stubborn stoic. She’s the perfect comedian to strike the delicate balance between tragedy and the absurd.
