Much of season 2 of I Am Cait so far finds Caitlyn and her group of trans friends and activists traversing the world, with Cait spreading ignorance while her more informed reality TV friends correct her and share real stories about living as a trans person.
For this little adventure, the group takes a class to learn about having orgasms without the burden of thinking about gender, in a scene that lightens the mood of the heated political arguments in previous episodes. “Trans people are shy of their bodies,” says Kate Bornstein. “Nobody takes our hand and says, ‘Look, here’s a good way to have fun with the body you’ve got.’ Until Barbara came along.”
The instructor Barbara then describes the experience as having an “orgasm without genitals.” Once they start with the faking of orgasmic sounds, Cait tries her best to play along but can’t quite handle it, so when Barbara tells the ladies to “move your pelvis,” Cait dutifully asks, “What the hell am I doing?”
