Watch Sky Ferreira, Karen O Sing David Lynch Songs For a Benefit
EntertainmentLove Sky Ferreira so much, although her rendition of 1950s standard “Blue Velvet” is a little pitchy from the nosebleeds, as this clip shows. Where she shines, she shines, though: the chorus, the particular vulnerability with which she sings the lyrics about her heart and the memories. This performance was in Los Angeles for The David Lynch Foundation, at a fundraiser commemorating the music of Lynch’s films. Karen O performed, as well, doing “Pinky’s Dream,” a reverb-soaked song she also co-performed on Lynch’s 2011 solo album. She also sounds a little flat, so maybe it’s just the dissonance of the vantage point, which is like 7,000 feet from the stage. Never make live recordings outside of the sound board, friends.
Other performers at the event included Duran Duran, Moby, and Zola Jesus, whose song “In Your Nature” David Lynch remixed. It makes sense, as Zola Jesus is a sort of Julee Cruise for a new generation. (Imagine a Zola Jesus cover of “Falling,” the Twin Peaks theme? Need that to happen immediately.)
