We’ve been getting teased and teased over this Cruel Intentions reboot by NBC, and now they’ve left us unsatisfied after pulling out completely.
Variety reports that you won’t get to see Sarah Michelle Gellar plot to take control of Valmont International while manipulating her dead step-brother’s son, Bash Case, perhaps with her sexuality. At least not on NBC. The network had asked Sony TV for cast option extensions in July, since there was no obvious slot for airing the pilot, and their schedule was already too decadently stuffed.
Now NBC is turning the series down entirely, with sources telling Variety that it was never quite the right fit and they have too much going on with other shows already. That doesn’t mean, however, that the series won’t be revived elsewhere; Sony is shopping it around and “multiple networks have inquired about the series.” Sure, everyone’s interested until they start sniffing around the nice new innocent pilot who just came to town.
