What's Going On With The-Dream's New Facial Hair Tho

Entertainment

The-Dream has a new look.

The singer flashed his new vision of style in Pusha T’s recent video for “M.P.A.” featuring Dream, A$AP Rocky and Kanye West, directed by Shomi Patwary (who is, full disclosure, a friend). The song, off Pusha’s unabashedly excellent new album King Push—Darkest Before Dawn: The Prelude is a take-it-from-me cautionary tale against falling into a shallow, dangerous world of parties and fool’s gold— “Money Pussy Alcohol,” as the song puts it. The video also shows off the surprising new style of Terius Nash, aka beloved, multiplatinum hit singer and songwriter The-Dream.

In the beginning, Dream appears to be wearing a Vuitton army jacket festooned with the fashion house’s logo patches, an 1800s style Boss of the Plains hat, some fancy dogtags and a medium-long goatee. He does not quite look like himself, mostly owing to the facial hair; if he were not singing in his typically angelic voice, you’d be forgiven if you thought he was a stand-in, or someone else entirely.

I suppose I haven’t been paying enough attention to his Instagram.

I did, however, listen to the Sam Cooke covers album he released in honor of his mother, who passed away in 1992. It made a lot of sense, as Dream draws immensely on the education in hooks and songwriting he received from simply listening to Cooke’s music, and he’s said from the beginning of his career he often writes with his mother and grandfather in mind.

What didn’t make sense to me was this look:

Or this one:

It just strikes me as slightly off; I think it’s the beard.

He might be growing it out.

I don’t know!!

Thanks to the Dream for all that you do!
