Whoopi Goldberg has committed to another wacky season of The View, according to sources.
Whoopi has been on the show since 2007, arguing insensibly with a revolving door of hosts, including Barbara Walters (who’s since retired), Rosie O’Donnell (who left twice), Rosie Perez (who was thought to be leaving and then stayed and then finally left), Nicole Wallace (who was fired last year), Elizabeth Hasselbeck and Sherri Shepherd.
The current co-hosts include Whoopi, Joy Behar, Candace Cameron Bure, Raven-Symone and Michelle Collins, who was fired days ago. Variety reports that Whoopi is close to extending her stay with a one-year contract:
The deal is expected to close by the end of this week, according to two sources with knowledge of the talks. Contrary to online reports, Goldberg will not be taking a pay cut as part of her new contract. She will continue to earn her current annual salary, which is in the $5 to $6 million range.
While Paula Faris and Good Morning America’s Sara Haines are reportedly in the running to join the show, Raven-Symone and Bure’s future status is unknown.
In honor of Whoopi’s stay, let’s watch the hosts try to fill dead air after that one time Whoopi ended the show prematurely by mistake.
