Why Isn't it Called The Woman Booker Prize?

Paul Beatty was announced as the winner of the 2016 Man Booker Prize for Fiction Tuesday for his 2015 satirical novel The Sellout. While Jezebel congratulates Beatty for this prestigious award, we can’t help but wonder why it isn’t called The Woman Booker Prize.

Though several women have received the prize since it was first awarded in 1969, the name itself is a reminder that while the most powerful figures in the Literary Industrial Complex may be well-read, they’re far from woke.
