After years of sketches and SNL skits like Lazy Sunday and Dick in a Box, the Lonely Island trio has finished their first movie, Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping, and the trailer looks as ridiculous as expected, with all the requisite gratuitous cameos.
“The arena is our bedroom and the stage, the stage is where we fuck,” says Andy Samberg, as his pop star character Conner4Real. His Lonely Island partners Jorma Taccone (who plays his DJ) and Akiva Schaffer (his lyricist) co-star, with Tim Meadows as Conner4Real’s manager. Judd Apatow is producing.
The guys are clearly sticking to the formula they know best here, which is mocking pop culture and the ridiculousness of the music business. And while this kinda looks funny, it’s hard to tell if it’ll be Dick in a Box quality. Probably a lot of dude humor. The trailer has cameos from Sarah Silverman, DJ Khaled, Seal, Snoop Dogg and a coupl’a humping Adam Levine holograms.
