Each year, we peek into the Instagram-window of the rich and famous to see how they spent their Thanksgiving, what they were thankful for, and who they hired to decorate and cook their tasteful 10-person feasts.

This year was a little different. Obama pardoned his last turkey, two months before a turkey will replace him. Protesters at Standing Rock—and the unacceptable, inhumane and racist treatment of them—remind us that Thanksgiving is and has always been a feel-good ruse. In the immortal words of Nas, “The Indians saved the pilgrim/And in return the pilgrim killed em/They call it it Thanksgiving, I call your holiday hellday.”

And yet, it all continued apace, turkeys and pies and mac ‘n’ cheese and the spirit of love and family—the only redeemable point of it all—so we may as well see how everyone celebrated.
