And The Oscar Nominations Go To…
LatestThe nominees for the 2009 Academy Awards were announced this morning and fittingly, Heath Ledger was nominated exactly one year to the day after his death. But, there were plenty of snubs and surprises.
The Curious Case of Benjamin Button took the lead with 13 nominations, followed by Slumdog Millionaire with 10. But even with so many nominations, none of the actors from Slumdog were nominated. The actors from Revolutionary Road were similarly shut out, with no nominations for Kate Winslet, or Leonardo DiCaprio, though Kate did get a best actress nomination for her role in The Reader. While Milk was snubbed at the Golden Globes, it received four Oscar nominations in big categories. Though the Globes had many wacky supporting actor nominations for films like Pineapple Express and Tropic Thunder, Oscar’s only quirky nomination was Robert Downey Jr. for his role as an Australian actor who plays a black man and winds up taking home the Oscar. Could life imitate the art that is Tropic Thunder? Below, a complete list of the nominees.
The nominees for best picture are “Frost/Nixon,” “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button,” “Milk,” “Slumdog Millionaire” and “The Reader.”
The nominees for best actor are Sean Penn (“Milk”), Frank Langella (“Frost/Nixon”), Mickey Rourke (“The Wrestler”), Richard Jenkins (“The Visitor”) and Brad Pitt (“The Curious Case of Benjamin Button”).
