A new Australian law that requires women to show their face to police is predictably coming under fire from Muslims and non-Muslims alike. New South Wales, one of Australia’s most populous states, is considering the measure.

Critics say the bill smacks of anti-Muslim bias given how few women in Australia wear burqas. In a population of 23 million, only about 400,000 Australians are Muslim. Community advocates estimate that fewer than 2,000 women where face veils, and it is likely that even a smaller percentage drives.

I’m surprised that Arizona hasn’t made a law like this yet. Have they? I try not to pay attention to what’s going on in Arizona; it’s usually depressing.
