Awful Man Returns To The Bachelorette, Is Awful

Latest

Last night, we finally came to the conclusion of The Bachelorette‘s Bentley storyline — something ABC has only been teasing us with for weeks, mind you — and the reunion is, shall we say, unpleasant. What makes it particularly awful to watch is Ashley’s obliviousness.

For those who haven’t been keeping track, at this point in the show Ashley has admitted to host Chris Harrison that she still has bad-guy Bentley on her mind, despite the 8 remaining men so desperately seeking her affection. In last night’s installment, Harrison tells Ashley about a special surprise: the show had flown Bentley all the way to Hong Kong to try and work it out with Ashley. Why punish this poor girl?! (Ratings, yes, we know.)

The awkward reunion featured Ashley talking about fate, putting her feelings on the table (“I couldn’t let you go and I still can’t!”) and asking for some kind of closure. Over and over again, she brought up how they had left off before “on a dot dot dot” (we believe she’s referring to an ellipses). Bentley, smooth operator that he is, danced around his true feelings about her until he finally responded by saying, “I would implore you to do all that you can to see what you have here, I guess.”

Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned, and as soon as Bentley’s true colors appeared to Ashley, she really let him have it. Later she defiantly finishes this chapter of The Bachelorette by saying, “Bentley, if you’re watching this — fuck you, I’m done with you!” And now we can all wash our hands of this massive douche, once and for all. Until he inevitably joins the hormone-fueled spin-off, Bachelor Pad, anyhow.

We must also mention the ripple effect Bentley’s visit had on the rest of the contestants. The men were not at all happy. In fact, they actually seemed quite devastated and upset, and dreamboat Mickey left the show upon hearing the news almost immediately. Who knew the contestants on this actually cared about Ashley?

A common response to this season of the show is that the men are such great pals each other that they’re actually much closer to themselves as a group than with Ashley herself. Their utter disgust, as a group, with Ashley’s Bentley revelation only goes to further cement that thinking. Somehow we suspect that Ashley won’t be getting engaged to her dream man at the end of the season.
