Celebrities Fill Ivanka Trump's Instagram Feed With Dream Act Reminders

Politics

Celebrities, who will save us, have used Thanksgiving to give thanks for overtime catering but also to send a political message. While Ivanka Trump took time out on Thursday to pardon a turkey which totally doesn’t have a social security number, celebrities she follows on Instagram urged her to push for a Clean Dream Act which would protect undocumented immigrants. Thanks to her father’s decision to dissolve the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program (DACA), 800,000 undocumented immigrants who arrived under the age of 16 could be eligible for deportation as early as March. If that’s going to be prevented, Congress must pass a Clean Dream Act (clean, meaning not a rotting carcass gagged with counteractive funding for the wall and ICE). In advance of the phase-out, the administration also accelerated the deadline for a last-minute chance to renew two-year DACA work permits, so many people are already losing their protections.

Nasty Gal founder Sophia Amoruso started the “Dear Ivanka” graphic, and it took off throughout the day. The letter reads:

Dear Ivanka,
I see you’re following me on Instagram. This Thanksgiving I would be grateful if you use the influence you have to advocate for a CLEAN Dream Act by December.
Every day that passes without a clean Dream Act means anxiety and deportation for immigrant youth.
7,901 youth have already lost DACA and 122 more will lose it each day.
Thank you and Happy Holidays.
