Comment of the Week: The ‘Funky Spunk’ Guy from ‘SATC’

Happy Sunday, and welcome back to our newly-launched “Comment of the Week.” If you’re getting slammed by this wall of ice and snow, then I hope you’re staying warm, and if not, then just enjoy your day or whatever.

One of my favorite categories of comments is when you guys drop nostalgic pop culture morsels that shock, awe, and inspire me to embark on a new rewatch of Sex and the City. (This is probably my 3,287th rewatch?)

With that said, this week’s winning (and revelatory) comment comes from @Lavender, who commented on “We Got an Update on Rose Byrne’s Bearded Dragon.”

Man, every time they come up in my feed, I am shocked all over again that Rose Byrne’s husband is the “funky spunk” guy from SATC.

I, too, experienced shock at this reminder. The “funky spunk” guy, of course, is Bobby Cannavale, whose character appeared in Season 3, Episode 9. In one of the more memorable and quotable scenes of the series, during brunch, Samantha Jones tells the ladies that she’s “dating a guy with the funkiest tasting spunk,” causing Charlotte to up and leave and Carrie to cancel her rice pudding order.

Samantha says it tastes like “Clorox” and “asparagus gone bad or something.” Unfortunately, she’s never able to solve the problem. And we never see Bobby again. Hopefully, his character also found a talented Australian actress to have a family with, including a beautiful bearded dragon.

See you next week, Abolish ICE.
