Comment of the Week: ‘Was He Able to Take His Disney Bubble Wand to the 7th Circle of Hell?’

After weeks of monitoring the maybe-alive Sen. Mitch McConnell’s (R-Ky.) for more shady health updates, the surprise news that Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) died over the weekend from a “brief and sudden illness” was not the headline anyone was expecting on Sunday morning. However, it served as another reminder of the consequences of a Congress run by unrelenting gerontocracy. The D.C. medical examiner’s office later indicated that on Saturday night, Graham suffered a tear in the main artery that carries blood from the heart and died at the age of 71. 

Over the years, Graham’s name has graced many a Jezebel blog, but on Sunday we made one final entry in the archive. Throughout the week, our readers took to the comment section to respectfully honor his life and legacy—a legacy that includes 31 years of warmongering, vehemently fighting against LGBTQ+ rights, flip-flopping on whether or not to get behind the MAGA grift, building the Supreme Court of our nightmares, and urging Israel to “flatten Gaza.” What a legacy. And what a comment section.

One commenter (Michael Weyer) reminds us: “As the saying not actually from Mark Twain goes, ‘I’ve never wished a man dead, but I’ve read some obits with great pleasure.'” Similarly, I’ve taken to reading these comments in the same vein—because you all had such sweet things to say about the late senator. But the Comment of the Week trophy is being awarded to commenter Urban SombreBro, who memorialized an essential piece of Graham’s story:

Oh yeah, I forgot one crucial detail of his legacy: getting caught roaming around Fantasyland with a toy bubble wand. (Thanks, TMZ).
