A mean boss can apparently screw up your life at home as well as at work — a new study shows that people with “abusive supervision” in their jobs can take it out on their partners.
The Huffington Post reports on the study of 280 employees and their domestic partners, conducted by Baylor University researchers. The study authors found that people with abusive bosses had more tension in their relationships and lower satisfaction with their family lives than people with nicer supervisors. Their partners also experienced lower-than-average “family functioning.”
The study’s not without good news — couples who had been married longer appeared more resistant to the effects of mean bosses. And abusive supervision didn’t appear to increase the likelihood of divorce. Still, it’s disturbing to hear that people who are being mistreated at work have something else to worry about too.
