“We agreed to enshrine the protections of DACA into law quickly, and to work out a package of border security, excluding the wall, that’s acceptable to both sides,” Schumer and Pelosi said.
The exclusion of a border wall in exchange for saving DACA was quickly denied by White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders in a tweet:
Nonetheless, the heavy-hitters in Trump’s base sounded the alarm over Trump’s alleged concession, with Breitbart dubbing him “Amnesty Don.”
Bright and early Thursday morning, Trump himself contradicted the Democrats claims, saying no deal whatsoever had been made, about the wall or anything else:
But the WALL is very much real. As is his compassion for DACA recipients, as long as their safety coincides with his platform of building a giant, useless fence in the desert:
According to the Washington Post, before the Wednesday meeting, Trump was fairly optimistic about Congress seeing legislation on DACA “real soon,” a statement contradicted by Speaker Paul Ryan, who says it will be “weeks” before any decisions will be made. After the back-and-forth of the last 24 hours, it kinda seems like they were both right.
