Here's Chadwick Boseman Playing a Black Icon Again in the Trailer for Marshall

Entertainment

As part of what’s presumably his destiny to embody every important black historical figure imaginable on film, Chadwick Boseman plays Thurgood Marshall in this trailer for the biopic Marshall.

Aside from his leading role in the future best movie of 2018, Black Panther, Boseman is never not playing a historical figure—Jackie Robinson (in 42), James Brown (Get On Up), and now he’s America’s first black Supreme Court Justice. Here, Boseman depicts Marshall as something of a superhero attorney, one who served as an NAACP lawyer and won the pivotal Brown v Board of Education case, and who says lines like, “The only way to get through a bigot’s door is to break it down.”

Per Deadline, Marshall also “follows the story of his greatest challenge in those early days: the case of black chauffeur Joseph Spell (Sterling K. Brown), accused by his white employer, Eleanor Strubing (Kate Hudson), of sexual assault and attempted murder.” The film opens October 13. After this, we have to assume Boseman will be done with biopics at least for a while, unless he lands a dream role as [insert black icon here].
