If Trump Says Gas Prices Are Low, Then Gas Prices Must Be Low!

If you noticed your local gas prices going up since the start of Trump’s war in Iran, no, you didn’t. You just imagined that. Are you feeling OK?

For the past year, our Gaslighter-in-Chief and his cronies have had an interesting way of spinning the truth, to put it mildly. First, Trump said he had nothing to do with Jeffrey Epstein, then his name appeared in the Epstein Files over 5,000 times. He said his party was the champion of free speech, yet he’s continued to use his power to silence opposition. He maintained that his tariffs were the best thing that had ever happened, despite Americans seeing firsthand rising grocery costs. And now, due to his own decision to bomb Iran, Trump is telling his version of the truth (also known as lying) about gas prices. In April, gas prices skyrocketed to a four-year high, but not if you ask the Trump administration! And no need to fact-check either—just trust them.

“Well, they’re not very high,” Trump told reporters outside the White House on Thursday. “If you look at what they were supposed to be in order to get rid of a nuclear weapon, with the danger that entails, the gas prices have come down very much over the last 3-4 days.” Shit could have been so much worse, in other words. Feel better yet?

According to the AAA National Average, gas prices hit their four-year peak two weeks ago at around $4.16 a gallon and now sit just above $4 a gallon (as of Thursday), so they technically fell (by a whopping 16 cents). But when a reporter pointed out that gas was still averaging $4 a gallon, Trump responded, “That’s what ABC says.”

“The fact is that if you look, the stock market’s up, everything’s doing really well,” and most importantly, “Iran does not have a nuclear weapon,” he said. Sure!

White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt stuck to a similar script, telling the press on Wednesday, “Thank god we have a president in an administration that believes in American energy dominance, and bringing down prices at the pump,” while wearing a pistachio green blouse akin to a Temu coach

“Look at how gas prices decreased over the past year since this president was in office.” I implore Karoline to take a look at herself and see with her own eyes how the average cost is again, the highest it has been since 2022.

Ironically, Leavitt’s Wednesday press conference was meant to announce the White House’s plans for the Triumphal Arch, a 250-foot Arc de Triomphe knock-off that Trump plans to break ground on for America’s 250th birthday. The White House has not yet released the cost of the arch, but don’t worry! Because everything’s doing really well: Eggs are free, the measles are gone, and Hegseth reads the bible! Right?
