Is Emily Blunt Getting Paid Half of What Co-Star The Rock Is Earning for Jungle Cruise?
CelebritiesDirt BagForgive me if I’m already deeply suspicious of the Jungle Cruise film, another Disney movie based on a Disney ride that still somehow relies on racist stereotypes (and also a pretty shitty grasp of geography), even though it won’t be out until summer of 2020. But here’s another reason for skepticism: TMZ, citing “sources,” reports that the Jungle Cruise is another Hollywood movie with a wild gender pay gap, with The Rock supposedly taking in $22 million to Emily Blunt’s $9 million, despite the fact that they are costars.
That’s less than half his upfront pay, and even though he is generally a big box office draw, in TMZ parlance she is “Mary freakin’ Poppins.” (It’s unclear how much the two are making from box office revenues or other backend pay.) I love Dwayne Johnson as much as the next guy (maybe not as much as most straight men, though), but if American culture’s most valued women—famous and beautiful white actresses—can’t get equal pay, what hope is there for the rest of us! SECURE THE BAG, BLUNT!
