James Comey Is Expected to Testify Before the Senate Next Week

• James Comey will likely testify before the Senate Intelligence Committee on Thursday, June 8. Though it’s unlikely that Comey will testify about details of the FBI’s ongoing investigation of possible collusion between Trump and Russia, he might discuss his dismissal by President Trump, as well as other conversations the two had regarding the investigation. The Post notes that “the hearing is sure to be explosive.” Since our current political state seems like a series of small explosions, the description is perhaps apt. [Washington Post]
• The White House, however, could exercise executive privilege and block Comey’s testimony. [New York Times]
• According to a report from CNN, the FBI is investigating whether or not there was an off-the-record meeting between now Attorney General Jeff Sessions and the Russian ambassador during the Trump’s presidential campaign. [CNN]
• Upper-class twit of the year, Nigel Incubator Jones (née Farage), is a “person of interest” in the FBI’s Russia investigation. [The Guardian]
• After kicking the beggar (i.e. “laughing”), Farage called the Guardian’s report “fake news.” [Huffington Post]
• President Vladimir Putin said that Russia never engaged in hacking. He did, however, allow that some “patriotic” hackers could have been involved in hacks in both the United States and Europe. Putin also alleged that the recent hacks could have been “deliberately” staged “in such a way as to cast Russia as the origin of such an attack.” So many possibilities! [Associated Press]
