To avoid a meltdown similar to last New Year’s Eve when Mariah Carey gave a tragic performance for the books, this year she’s doing a soundcheck beforehand instead of sending a stand-in.
According to TMZ:
We’re told this time around … sound will be fully check by Mariah.
As for how this performance got booked, our sources say both sides wanted it. Mariah is determined to show the world she’s up to the task, and the folks at DCP know ratings will spike because no one is discounting the possibility of another train wreck.
After that disastrous eve, the incident snowballed into a series of accusations: Carey’s manager blamed producers, Carey claimed the performance was “sabotaged” and said her earpiece malfunctioned, and Ryan Seacrest later took up for the crew of Dick Clark Productions.
Everyone has since chilled out. Let’s see what it looks like when everything goes right.
