Netflix's Amanda Knox Documentary Gets Two Trailers: One for Her Believers and One for Her Doubters

Hot on the heels of Making of a Murderer, Netflix is releasing another true crime documentary, this one focusing on the trial of Amanda Knox, the American student accused of murdering her British roommate Meredith Kercher while studying abroad in Perugia, Italy in 2007.

The first trailer for Amanda Knox, titled “Believe Her,” approaches the murder and trial with the assumption that Knox is innocent and the victim of both the Italian legal system and global media frenzy that engulfed her.

“Suddenly I found myself tossed into this dark place,” a tearful Knox (who participated in the documentary) tells the camera. “I was so scared. I don’t know what else to say.”

The second trailer, “Suspect Her,” takes a more doubtful approach to Knox’s claim of innocence, reminding viewers of her cavalier behavior (like doing cartwheels in the police station) while under investigation for Kercher’s murder and—far more damningly—her false accusation of Patrick Lumumba, a local barman who Knox named as the murderer while being interrogated.

Knox and her then-boyfriend Raffalle Sollecito were initially found guilty of murdering Kercher, but were eventually acquitted in 2011. The acquittal was overturned in 2013 and Knox was sentenced to 28 years (Sollecito was given 25). Knox, who had already returned to the U.S. refused to travel to Italy for the sentencing and the Italian supreme court overturned the convictions of both Knox and Sollecito in 2015. Rudy Guede, the man who confessed to Kercher’s murder (and implicated Knox), is currently serving 19 years at a prison in Viterbo, Italy.

Amanda Knox premieres on Netflix on September 30.
