It was mostly reality stars—past and present—and drag queens that showed up for yesterday’s GLAAD Brazilian Festival, meaning that almost everybody was over-the-top.
Designer Malan Breton was wearing perhaps one of the most understated looks of the evening. Do you think it was awkward when Lance Bass and ex Reichen Lehmkuhl ran into each other? Lehmkuhl was wearing the clothing version of a mullet: Business up top, party down below.
One of these things is not like the others. And by that I mean, one of these girls (Lisa Lampanelli, center) doesn’t have a “thing.” Stacy Lane Matthews looks like a middle-aged Italian woman attending a wedding, while Carmen Carrera (right) is way too tasteful for my liking.
If we were playing “Which twin from Big Business are you?” designer Jonathan Adler would be city Sadie while his husband Simon Doonan would be country Sadie. I actually like Derek Warburton’s pattern overkill, but find the highlighting of his big toe to be nauseating. And then there’s Phillip Bloch, who is kind of serving us some ironic realness here. He’s dressed like those Jersey club-going guys who are straight but look like they’re totally gay.
Former Top Model Isis is looking good. With the feathers and the crimped wig, Bebe Zahara Benet is showing that she deserved first place on RuPaul’s Drag Race. And I think Derek Saathoff wins Best Dressed in my book, simply because of the level of difficulty it requires to adequately match red lipstick, like the one on his shirt, to the rest of the outfit.
What kind of fun would this eventl be without satchels of gold and Turtle Time? Lastly, I’m gonna go out on a limb here and say that matching your shoes to your wife’s dress is the queerest thing about the GLAAD Brazilian festival.
