Now's Your Chance to Buy Queen Victoria's Underpants

Vintage shopping isn’t easy when you’re plus-sized, but hey, here’s a golden opportunity: Queen Victoria’s underpants are currently up for sale!

The BBC reports that a Sussex museum is auctioning off several pieces they’ve apparently got lying around, because you know, that lingerie chest sure can get out of control fast. That includes stockings that belonged to Princess Alice and yes, one pair of undershorts in “excellent condition,” with a 45-inch waist and ol’ Vicky’s monogram. “We’ve been able to date the pants by measuring the waistband and they are from the last 10 years of her life,” circa 1891, said Richard Edmonds of Chippenham Auction Rooms.

They got the shorts because back in the day queens gave their stuff to loyal retainers, I guess including their underwear, because monarchy is really, really weird:

According to Mr Edmonds, the 125-year-old underwear was bought by Yesterday’s World museum from a descendant of one of Queen Victoria’s ladies-in-waiting.
“Items of Queen Victoria’s clothing were often given to members of the royal household, particularly after her death in 1901,” he said.
“And they’re stamped with the royal crest which proves they’re from the royal wardrobe.”

Better start lifting those couch cushions, though, because last year, a pair of Victoria’s silk underwear sold for more than £6,000.
