Obama Will Be First Sitting Prez to Speak at Planned Parenthood Event
LatestPresident Barack Obama will address around 1,000 Planned Parenthood supporters of Planned Parenthood Federation of America tomorrow — he’ll be the first sitting president to dare address the organization.
He was supposed to deliver a keynote address at an annual Planned Parenthood gala tonight, but rescheduled in order to attend the George W. Bush Library dedication and a memorial service for victims of the factory explosion in West, Texas. Which is why anti-abortion group Susan B. Anthony sent out an incredibly misleading press release announcing: “In Wake of Gosnell Trial, Obama Bails on Planned Parenthood Gala.”
No, sorry! He’ll still be representing support for reproductive rights — as he should, given that women and allies who want access to abortion and other reproductive health care are largely responsible for voting him back into office.
Planned Parenthood President Cecile Richards said in a statement this week that “President Obama has done more than any president in history for women’s health and rights.”
Marjorie Dannenfeiser, the president of the anti-abortion group Susan B. Anthony List, concurred in her own statement:
“There is no industry that President Obama is more willing to protect than the abortion industry and particularly Planned Parenthood, the nation’s biggest abortion provider, which in a single year performed more than 333,000 abortions. The president has defended federal funding for Planned Parenthood to the point of being willing to shut down the government over the continuing resolution battle, and in return they spent a record amount to reelect him in November.”
At least we can all agree on something!
