Most of the time when I want to know more about a paranormal or spooky mystery like the Hinterkaifeck murders or the possible existence of the Jersey Devil, I just read Wikipedia pages about them for hours until I fall asleep. But if you’re a famous person like Rob Lowe you can just make a whole show about your twisted obsession.
Coming to A&E in August is The Lowe Files, a new reality show featuring Lowe and his adult sons Matthew and John Owen that follows the family “as they travel through the country to explore infamous unsolved mysteries.” Now the trailer is out, which includes such powerful insights as “holy shit” and “oh my god” proclaimed over Blue Oyster Cult’s “(Don’t Fear) The Reaper.”
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Lowe described the show as “Anthony Bourdain in a blender with Scooby Doo,” which sounds more terrifying than anything in this trailer. He also talks about a real-life encounter he had with a “wood ape,” which is just another word for Bigfoot or a Sasquatch, on the show. “I was lying on the ground thinking I was going to be killed,” he tells the publication.
If you want to see the wood ape you’ll unfortunately have to tune in for the season finale but I’ll leave you with this illustration from the North American Wood Ape Conservancy:
