Taylor Swift Donates $250K to Kesha as a 'Show Of Support,' Demi Lovato Seems Unimpressed

Latest

Taylor Swift, beatific friend and benefactress to all women, has donated $250,000 to Kesha “in a show of support.”

Swifty’s spokesperson told E! Online that the donation is intended “to help with any of her financial needs during this trying time.” On Friday, February 19, a New York Supreme Court judge ruled that Kesha cannot opt out of her contract with Dr. Luke—the producer who allegedly drugged and sexually abused her on multiple occasions.

Kesha’s mother, singer-songwriter Pebe Sebert, has already tweeted out her gratitude to Swift, calling the superstar a “truly RICH PERSON” in light of her willingness to give to those in need. As Gossip Cop notes, Kesha has “racked up hefty legal bills” over the course of these court proceedings.

Other female artists, including Demi Lovato, Lorde, Ariana Grande, Kelly Clarkson, and Lady Gaga, expressed their support for Kesha on social media soon after the verdict was delivered. Swift’s Twitter account has been dormant for the last few days, and this generous donation, mediated through a spokesperson, serves as her comment on the matter.

The move, of course, is so quintessentially Taylor Swift. On the one hand she appears to have made the grandest gesture of all her peers—$250,000 rather than 140 characters—and on the other, by not commenting personally, she maintains the neutrality a corporate darling requires. Demi Lovato, for one, is not impressed.

Next up, let’s see the excruciating amount of pressure placed on female pop artists to “support one another” applied, for once, to men!
