The Ocean's 8 Trailer Is More About the Fancy Party Than the Heist

All of Debbie Ocean’s crew is assembled. We’ve been introduced to the tech head (Rihanna), the forger (Mindy Kaling), the sleight-of-hand (Awkwafina), and the rest of the assembly. Here, we get to know a little bit more about who they’re facing off against. The Met Gala itself is the centerpiece, which means seeing some full on shots of everyone’s fancy looks for the main event. Sandra Bullock gets a blonde wig! Helena Bonham-Carter is basically playing herself on the red carpet! Who is even pretending in this moment?

Much like the original Ocean’s 11 and its sequels, this is a film that blurs the lines of reality by essentially having actors playing themselves playing a part. That’s especially true with Anne Hathaway, who is supposedly the dupe in all this, as self-obsessed socialite named Daphne Kluger.
