The Senate Is Slated to Vote on the No Good, Very Bad Tax Bill Soon 

Here’s all the shit we couldn’t cover today:

• The Republican tax bill “could widen American economic inequality while diminishing the power of local communities to marshal relief for vulnerable people—especially in high-tax states like California and New York, which, not coincidentally, tend to vote Democratic.” In short, it’s bad. • The Joint Committee on Taxation estimates that the tax bill will add $1 trillion to the deficit. [The Hill]
• Senator John McCain said he will vote for the bill. [Politico]

• A reminder that the tax bill is also an Obamacare repeal in disguise: “The repeal of the Affordable Care Act’s individual mandate—a provision rolled into the Republican tax bill—means millions more people will be uninsured by 2027, according to the Congressional Budget Office (CBO). Individual and small-group marketplaces will be destabilized, and rates of medical bankruptcy will return to pre-Obamacare levels.” [The Atlantic]

• In her daily briefing, Sarah Sanders defended Donald Trump’s decision to retweet anti-Islamic videos from Jayda Fransen, the leader of a British hate group. “I think what [Trump’s] done is elevate the conversation to talk about a real issue and a real threat, and that’s extreme violence and extreme terrorism,” Sanders said today.
