Apparently kids in China are making their parents and teachers angry over something way cooler than fidget spinners: miniature crossbows that shoot toothpicks!
According to CNN, police are cracking down on the craze and raiding shops that sell these absolutely adorable crossbows, which only cost about a $1 each. But parents are understandably angry about the little wittle baby weapons. “This is not a toy, but a mini weapon of destruction,” said Yan Yan, a mother, on China’s social media platform Weibo.
It is true that the crossbows can be extremely dangerous, as toothpicks shot by a crossbow can reportedly pierce a piece of aluminum 20 to 66 feet away. And one boy, a 10-year-old from Xinjiang, has already suffered irreversible eyesight loss after a toothpick crossbow hurt his right eye.
If you, like me, are a sicko who still wants one, they seem to be selling on eBay for a few dollars from Chinese sellers:
I’ve already noticed a few listings have been taken down even since writing this post. So if you want one to complete your American Girl Doll’s sniper look, don’t delay!
