Trump and MTG’s Boyfriend Discuss How to Make Pride Flag a Terrorist Symbol

Brian Glenn, a ”reporter," told Trump that if he labels ”transtifa”—the far-right’s new hate-mongering term—a domestic terrorist group, then he could get the flag taken down.

Trump and MTG’s Boyfriend Discuss How to Make Pride Flag a Terrorist Symbol

Earlier this year, the Onion published this headline: “It Is Journalism’s Sacred Duty To Endanger The Lives Of As Many Trans People As Possible.” On Monday, Brian Glenn, a right-wing reporter (and Marjorie Taylor Greene’s boyfriend), lived up to that headline—and got the president to all but agree that the pride flag should be considered a terrorist symbol.

Trump was hosting an Oval Office press conference to answer questions about Charlie Kirk’s death when Glenn brought up “trans shooters,” why the “trans flag” was being seen “up and down 14th street” (one of Washington D.C.’s gayborhoods), and how “a lot of people were very threatened by this flag.” Holding up an image of the LGBTQ+ Progress Pride flag, Glenn proudly bleated: “This is what would be the trans flag,” and asked the president whether he would “[take it] down.”

Eerily, Trump entertained the delusions: “Well, I wouldn’t be [against it]—but then they’ll sue and they’ll get freedom of speech stuff. So that’ll happen, but I would have no problem with it.”

Brian Glenn tells Trump that “a lot of people are threatened” by the transgender flag because “it means a lot of negative things to people. Violence.”

Then, the president got distracted—and lost his cognitive function on the way to his point. “Freedom of speech means you can burn the American flag,” he ranted. “I want anybody who burns the American flag go to jail.” (What?) “Go to jail based on freedom of speech, goes to jail. But the freedom of speech protected them, right, and so that’s been argued a couple times.” (The Supreme Court ruled to protect flag burning in 1989.) “But you know what hasn’t been argued, and we’re going to be arguing, I think very soon?…That’s the violence, the incite violence.” Trump’s been wanting to criminalize flag burning since 2016, seeking one-year prison sentences for anyone who dares to set the stars and stripes ablaze. Again, however, the First Amendment is in his way—though that’s beginning to look like less of a problem for him.

“Well, there’s also groups called Transtifa,” Glenn replied. “So perhaps if you can label them a domestic terrorist group, in all reality, you could take that flag down, because it would represent the Transtifa.” While Transtifa is nothing more than a new far-right term used for anti-trans hatemongering, it’s a blend of two Trump targets: trans people, whom he’s been seeking to erase since his first day back in office; and Antifa, whom he’s long wanted to incorrectly label as a “terrorist group.”

“I think you probably could,” the president concluded. “Again, you’ll be sued, and it’s OK. I’ve been sued before a couple of times.”

Conveniently, the president failed to mention that he’s also been indicted, or that he is diametrically opposed to the life, liberty, and pursuit of happiness of trans Americans. Since the start of his second term, Trump has endangered transgender people, attacked gender-affirming care, and erased contributions by trans people in modern history. To riff off the Onion, It Is Trump’s Sacred Duty To Endanger Free Speech As Much As Possible.
