Watch Bette Midler Shut the Tony Awards Exit Music Right Up

Latest

Last night, Bette Midler won a Tony for Best Leading Actress in a Musical for her role in the revival of Hello, Dolly! And when the orchestra tried to play her off as she was rattling off her acknowledgements, she told them to “shut that crap off!” And they did!

Midler went on for another full minute, talking about the long heritage of Hello, Dolly! and encouraging everyone to come see a show that “has the ability to lift your spirits in these terrible, terrible times,” and also dedicating the honor to such previous Dollys as Carol Channing and Pearl Bailey before finally taking her leave on her own goddamn time table.
